New single from Karina Nistal

Our latest reggae release comes from Houston’s own Karina Nistal and it’s called Heaven Inside. It will be available on all platforms on Friday, July 5, 2024.

Karina shared her thoughts on the song:
““Heaven Inside” is an uplifting reggae anthem that radiates positivity and peace. With its vibrant rhythm and soulful melodies, the song invites listeners to find inner tranquility and joy. The heartfelt lyrics celebrate love, unity, and the divine spirit within us all, making “Heaven Inside” a perfect Summer soundtrack for those seeking harmony and happiness.”

RJ Johnson shared his thoughts on the song:
“Heaven Inside comes from my daily meditation practice which I started doing during Covid and I have continued every day. So many of us have been looking outside of us for the answers, when we should look within and learn to trust in the blessings that God has for us.
It was a joy to have legendary engineer Steven Stanley, one of my heroes, create the final mix at Mixing Lab in Kingston, Jamaica. This single is also being released on a 7-inch 45 single and will be available on the release date. I’m very proud of what our team put together on this project.”

New Song from Dre Z Melodi

In May of 2022, I went to the the infamous Big Star Bingo where my Queen Jessica likes to play bingo. I discovered quickly when we got together 10 years ago that Bingo is not really my thing. I decided that I would go with her every so often and take my laptop and build riddims sitting next to her while she plays. Doing this provides me with a place to get seriously focused and create. My challenge there is to keep it down and not have too much fun while everybody else is playing bingo. I made one Riddim that day called “So Mi Like” and I sent it to Dre Z Melodi to check out and he wrote a great song on top of it. Somehow I forgot to tell him that this rough demo track was not finished yet. He contacted me as he was finalizing his album which was only a couple of weeks away from the release date and told me that this would be the title track! So time was short and we had to finish this one up in less than 2 weeks. Shoutout to Moe Monsarrat on bass and Marc Schaefgen on guitar for helping me to get it finished up.

One of the things I love about how this track came together was the drum sounds I used on it. I played a live drum track using Roland V-Drums triggering from my rack. I was probably most happy about being able to use the Roland DDR-30 module for the amazing toms (timpani samples) and kick drum from the Roland TR-707 circe 1985. My roommate, Gregory Stevens had a 707 in the 80s and we used to play with it a lot making demos on a 4-track cassette. I also used the DRUMSYN Drum Synthesizer app from Ekssperimental Sounds for the syndrum sequence that I used on it. All the cymbals came from the V-Drums.

I hope you enjoy this one!

“Jah is our shelter in our time of need
Jah give we strength to win great victory!”

Thank you Dre Z Melodi for this ONEderful song!
